Lake Hallie Hickory Classic: The Plan
Play begins on Saturday, June 3 at 11:30 am. There will be three divisions, Open, Senior (60 and over), and New to Hickory. Open contestants will compete with gross scores only, and others with both gross and net. Senior players may choose to compete in the Open Division. The course is friendly to walkers but golf car rental is included in the entry fee and practice round green fee.
Players may arrive on Friday, June 2nd for a practice round. Arrangements should be made with the pro shop, 715-861-5443. The fee is $28.
A gathering with beverages and appetizers will be held around the old outdoor fireplace near the finishing hole in the afternoon, and a dinner will follow at six pm on the patio of the Lake Hallie Clubhouse. The high patio overlooks Lake Hallie and the Chippewa River Valley. Dinners are ordered from the menu and are not included in the entry fee.
On Sunday the 4th players are invited to a nine-hole scramble event at the rustic Chicken Heaven “Country Club,” about fifteen minutes south of Eau Claire. Breakfast burritos and coffee will be served at 8 am and play will begin at 9:30 am. This will be a scramble format and either late 19th Century or early 20th Century clubs may be used. The Chicken Heaven links has sand greens and is maintained by enthusiastic volunteers with high standards.

Each player is asked to supply their handicap index on their entry form. If you have a hickory handicap Index from the Society of Hickory Golfers (SoHG) or another USGA system, please provide. Players that do not have a hickory index will need to use the one established with post-1935 equipment. If you do not have an established handicap index, please indicate this on your entry and a tournament organizer will contact you to arrange an estimated one. All handicap indexes will be updated prior to the start of the tournament.
Rentals of clubs with hickory shafts are available for $5. Balls from all makers are allowed, but they must be lower compression. Examples of suitable balls are any marked “soft” of “soft feel.” The Pro V ball is on the upper end of soft balls and is suitable. Balls such as the standard Pinnacle or Top Flight can be damaging to hickory shafts. All clubs must have hickory shafts.
