About Wisconsin Hickory Golfers

Our Wisconsin Hickory Golfers group has grown to over 50 players strong and we are proud members of the Society of Hickory Golfers. The Society has 500 members who play the game with hickory shaft clubs. Some play with replica clubs; others prefer authentic/antique; and many use a combination of the two. Many also play historic replica golf balls. Many enjoy wearing period clothing. By the way, knickers and argyle socks are not required. Trousers were and are always in style. Vests are popular. Of course, the “newsboy” or “Hogan” caps symbolize the historic era of hickory golf. As you’ll discover, it’s not about your score, it’s all about fun, comaraderie, and the love of the game. We welcome anyone interested in playing hickory golf to one of our events. If you’re just getting started, we highly recommend our Tuscumbia or Thornberry Creek one-day events. It’s inexpensive. Generally, standard green fees apply and you can choose to walk or ride. Several players are also avid collectors. Collectors look for both collector clubs, too valuable to be played, as well as playable clubs. It’s easier than you think because millions of clubs were made between 1900 and 1935. Free rental sets are available, both replicas and authentics. Yes, we even have a left handed set! We offer advice on where to find clubs, how to prepare them for play and even have complete sets for sale. Come on, you got this far into researching us. Take the next step. As one of our members says, “you have never hit a pure golf shot until you hit a hickory golf club”.
